We are aware that some areas of the Ward look neglected and require immediate action and investment. New Barnet particularly is currently suffering from Planning Blight and the Council need to adopt a clearer strategy for the area in partnership with the local community. The buildings purposely left derelict by Tesco (in an attempt to justify major demolition in the area) urgently need to be brought up to standard.
The Council acknowledges has acknowledged a series of problems in New Barnet such as ‘poor quality footpaths, signage, street furniture and planting', ‘hostile pedestrian environment due to traffic', and ‘traffic congestion at peak times'. The Council needs to address these core responsibilities immediately.
When will Tesco tidy up this slum?
It is comng up to one year since Tesco won planning permission to build a Tesco Express on this site at Victoria Road. They were the people
who took Barnet Council to a Planning Inquiry for being too slow in making a decision on this site. Yet they have chosen to leave this site derelict for a year, making the area look run down and
neglected. This, along with the indecison around their main superstore sight is causing planning blight of the area. If you are listening Tesco, either build your shop or pull down this derelict and
dangerous eyesore. Doing nothing is simply disrespectful to every single local resident.
